The old Q/A. Still a simple Text File, but I excluded Stuff mentioned on the Installation Page here https://gregtech.mechaenetia.com/1.7.10 Everything is located at or linked by: https://gregtech.mechaenetia.com/ Earlygame Guide is here https://gregtech.mechaenetia.com/1.7.10/earlygame Some of these old Q/A-Sentences were made with similar Intelligence as the "Bugreports" I got, some of them are quite funny. And I am usually way less Toxic than these QA things sound. //----------------------------- // General Stuff //----------------------------- Q: Will you ever update to newer Versions of Minecraft? A: Nope, not anymore. I left MC and will only do Bugfixes and Pull Requests. Q: Can I update GT5 to GT6 without problems? A: No you cannot. Simple as that, YOU. CAN. NOT. And don't ask any Questions on "how bad" it is to update, you will simply lose EVERYTHING. Q: My FPS are near 0, how can I solve this? A: Try disabling the mipmap function entirely or allocate more RAM, one of those should solve it. If you want to keep Mipmapping, then try installing FastCraft, it should maybe fix that issue. Q: Where is GT5? A: The same place GT6 is located at, just scroll down. Scroll down a LOT. Q: REMOVE THOSE USELESS ITEMS, THEY LAG THE HELL OUT OF MY STARTUP!!! A: Okay that isn't actually a Question at all, but no, I won't remove them since I rely on them. Also it is the Recipe System doing that and not those Items, if you have an Idea on how to improve that System then fine tell it to me, but don't complain about those Items, because I will not remove those. Q: REMOVE THOSE USELESS ITEMS, THEY TAKE TOO MUCH SPACE IN NEI!!! A: Okay that isn't actually a Question either, but nope, you have no Idea how to determine which Items are actually useless, do you? You egoistic prick just want to have less Stuff visible in NEI and see people suffer from not being able to find the Items they eventually need, don't you? Q: REMOVE THOSE USELESS ORES THAT DON'T GENERATE!!! A: Nope, I won't do that either. You are way too shortsighted to actually see the Issues that would originate from doing this. Q: Why does my Game take so long to load with GregTech? Can't you just make it more efficient or something? A: Unless you have a Solution which works, you are not allowed to talk about this Problem. GregTech is as efficient as possible (to my knowledge), but it has also an awful lot of things to do in order to work properly, and I cannot just remove those things. Even the greatest Efficiency is worth almost nothing, if the amount of work to do is extremely large. Q: My XRay Mod doesn't detect your Ores, help! A: You use XRay? You filthy cheater! But yes i made sure it does not work (especially in Multiplayer), while also increasing performance at the same time! Q: How to I change a Config? A: By changing the value behind the "="-Sign. And because I literally just had an Idiot, who decided to change the value in front of the "=" instead after I explicitely said "behind", I also mention that the English Language, like most latin based Languages, goes from left to right and therefore you must change the value to the right of the "=" Sign. If you still change the value on the left of the "=" Sign, or think that changing both values is a good Idea, after reading this you can officially be called retarded. Q: Why is the Default so Hard? I don't like Hard Mode, is there an easier Mode? A: No there isn't, unless you want more Ores, then just change the Ore Processing Multipliers in the Config. Maybe you should try to Configure the Game a little. (have fun with the gazillions of Config options) Q: Where are the Recipes? A: Use NEI, if you don't want to use NEI, then use NEI, if you hate NEI for good reasons, then use NEI, if NEI crashes for retardedly stupid reasons, then use NEI, is NEI down on Chickenbones Website, then use NEI, we have no other choice, Chickenbones has the Monopoly on this. NEI is linked on the Download Page. Q: This Q/A is in no way friendly to the Users, would you change that? A: I do understand your concerns, but I personally don't care if people like what I do, or how I do it, it is just the result that counts, as long as the way to the result isn't stupid. And in this case the result is people knowing what to do and what not to do. I don't need to convince them to not ask those Questions, since the ones asking those Questions don't read this anyways. So, I don't give a fuck. //----------------------------- // About Crashes //----------------------------- Q: When I add GregTech the Game starts to cause Lag Spikes every few seconds, please fix! A: You are very close to running out of Memory, allocate more RAM, otherwise you will continue to lag constantly. Q: An Error Log containing this Message: "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space" A1: FIRST thing to do is UPDATE TO JAVA 8! A2: If that doesn't help then DOWNLOAD MORE RAM! Q: This shit: "java.lang.NullPointerException: Ticking memory connection at cpw.mods.fml.common.network.internal.FMLProxyPacket.func_148833_a(FMLProxyPacket.java:101)" A: Congratulations, one of your Mods lags enough to make this pure Forge Bug visible, it is fixed in Version 6.07.20 of GregTech, however CoFH Core and Thermal Expansion are also Mods that cause it, so me fixing it on my end doesn't help Users of those Mods. It happens randomly due to Multithreading so try rebooting and it should start properly if you are lucky. It is a pure Forge Bug that can happen with any Modpack even if it doesn't include GT. But don't bother reporting it to the Forge people, they already mistakenly flagged this Bug as "caused by a random undeterminable Mod that does something wrong" meaning they will simply ignore it or just ban you for reporting it. Q: My Crash Log contains "java.lang.RuntimeException: ambiguous recipe:" HELP!!! A: Neither GregTech nor IC² are the Source of this Crash, it is the Mod adding that Recipe causing the Crash by improperly using the IC²-exp API. Q: I crash whenever I click the Recipes Button on a Machine in NEI (Thermal Centrifuge, Ore Washer, Extractor, Compressor and Macerator), please fix! A: Not my Bug. This is a Bug of the Mod adding the Recipe which crashes you, and said Mod is NEVER GregTech and NEITHER IC². Q: I have a Crash or Bug in an older Version of GregTech, should I post it? A: No. Always use the most recent Version or else you are not getting supported, especially not with an older Minecraft Version. Sorry, but I just cant fix Bugs in ancient Versions. Q: My Crash is mentioned here, but it only happens if I install GregTech, I am sure this is the reason, may I post it because of that? A: Nope, you didn't understand the point of this Q/A. Uninstall every other Mod which is not IC² or GregTech one by one, until the Crash is gone and then reinstall all other Mods in order to find out whom to report that Crash to. And again, do not report it to me, I know that it is not my fault and therefore not fixable by me, when it is in the Q/A. Q: I got this Crash: java.lang.RuntimeException: ambiguous recipe: [X, conflicts with Y] -> [Z] at ic2.core.BasicMachineRecipeManager.addRecipe(BasicMachineRecipeManager.java:33) A: Not my fault, go a bit down the StackTrace and you will find the offending Mod. Post your Bug there, I don't want to waste my time with improper usage of the IC² API by others. And YES IT IS THEIR FAULT, they will deny it, but they are to fix that Issue! Q: I have a Crash not mentioned above, how do I post it? A: Finally good Question, look at the beggining of the Q/A, for Instructions on how to Post a Bug Report. //----------------------------- // About Buggy Behaviour //----------------------------- Q: I cannot mine Gravel/Sand Ores with my Shovel! What Tool is it!?! A: A properly coded Shovel. Sadly all vanilla Tools* or anything made like them** are not properly coded and therefore won't work (* = vanilla Pickaxes are a filthy hack into that improper Code to at least work with common cases, ** = like almost every other Mods Tools). Try a GregTech Shovel, I always make sure my Tools work as correct as possible. Q: When I saw-harvest an Ice Block, it does leave a Water Block behind in addition to dropping an Ice Block Item. A: Well, this is a Forge Bug, and LexManos got appointed to fix it YEARS ago. It is such a tiny Bug and easy to fix, so if anyone cares to fix the Block Harvest Event being called >>BEFORE<< the setBlock to Water in BlockIce.java, rather than AFTER (like it should be) in Forge, then do it. Q: The Timber Axe doesn't let me auto-cut of Branches with the Axe. A: That is intended, it just cuts a column out of the Tree, not more. Q: The Item Detector Sensor doesn't work properly on Pipes. A: Ofcourse it doesn't work, it detects stuff inside the INVENTORY, and Pipes have only an Inventory to accept Items, they never actually move Items, they somewhat teleport them. Try the Activity Detector or Progress Sensor on the Pipe, those ones work. //----------------------------- // About Intended things of which some people think they are Bugs //----------------------------- Q: Help I cannot smelt my Metals into Ingots! A: This is intended. Only very few Metals are smeltable in a Furnace, like Tin, Zinc, Copper, Bronze, Brass, Lead, Bismuth or Mercury. Make a GT Smelting Crucible, place a Burning Box below and a Mold next to the Crucible. The Mold needs to be Chiseled into the Shape you want to have the Metal. The Shape for an Ingot is a 3 by 5. Don't worry, you can place the Shape anywhere and with any rotation or even mirrored on the Mold and it will still work. Any failed shape will result in an X amount of Nuggets being produced at once. There should also be a Manual about Smelting in Creative since Version 6.00.32 if you really need it (otherwise found as Dungeon Loot) Q: Would you please fix the hitboxes of your Pipes and Wires to not be a full Cube? A: Nope. While I know exactly how to "fix" that Problem properly, I am not going to do that. It is FULLY INTENDED to no be able to access GUIs of things which are right next to a Pipe, or to place Blocks behind Pipes. You could not do that IRL, so you won't be able to do that in GT either, like some other Mods do. Q: Your Superconductor is not actually lossless, this is not how a Superconductor works! A: That 1 EU per Meter is not really "loss", see it as more of a coolant cost, rather than an actual loss. Q: I cannot enchant your Tools, please fix it! A: The Tools are intended to be NOT enchantable, the Enchantments on Tools you can get depend on the Material you use to craft them and nothing else. Q: HELP I CANT CRAFT "XYZ"! A: Use NEI. I changed many Recipes, so it has maybe changed the one you are using. Q: Why are there two kinds of Ruby with different Metadata? A: They are actually different. One is Fools Ruby and one is regular Ruby. Guess why Fools Ruby is supposed to look exactly like Ruby. The only worse Stat of Fools Ruby is that it cannot be recycled or used in regular Ruby applications. Same applies to Pyrite and Gold too now, by the way. Q: The Block tells me that I cannot place it in this Environment! What am I doing wrong? A: If it is a solid Block and the Melting Point of it is below the Temperature around you, you cannot place it. Antimatter Blocks are unplaceable for security reasons. //----------------------------- // About Frequent Suggestions //----------------------------- Q: Fuses! We need Fuses! I don't know for what, but we need them! A: So if I did Fuses, they would burn once a Cable gets Overamperage, so far so good, but then again this would be useless, since the Battery Buffers and Transformers have a Fixed Amperage Output, rendering a Fuse useless, since there are no Devices with a variable Amperage Output. This results in the following Answer: I will add it once it is actually useful to have such a thing. Q: Is there any way to disable Materials, which are unobtainable? A: Nope, also you will be very surprised about the huge amount of Stuff you did not think to be available, but which is actually available, so removing just 10% would not make much of a difference. Also it is technically not even possible to remove that Stuff. Q: It's so hard to find Ores, can you make it easier? A: There is a Config that improves your Ore Processing by multiplying the Output of crushed Ores by a certain Number. It is Material based, so you can fine tune it per Material in the OreProcessing.cfg //----------------------------- // About other random things //----------------------------- Q: Why don't you have a Twitter? 1: I cannot really write short Messages, and using Methods of making Tweets longer in every single Tweet would defy the purpose of Twitter. 2: It would be only "one more place to post Stuff", and that would be pointless. 3: It's better to post everything on the GT-Forums, my Website, or on IRC, that way everything is at one place and not scattered everywhere. 4: Twitter is a shitty Service, where people can just steal others Identity without even hacking them! Ask @Marc_IRL, it happened to him! 5: The new forced Twitter Layout of 2020 makes the Site too laggy and shitty. //----------------------------- // tl;dr //----------------------------- Q: I did not read all of the Q/A, am I allowed to post my Question or Bugreport on this Thread? A: Wait. You have read this sentence, but not the rest of the Q/A? What is wrong with you? And btw. NO YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO!
